ABOUT AKOMA AFRO DANCE
Akoma Afro Dance was born out of the need for Afro Caribbean Cultural programs in Brampton.
Akoma offers not only a wide array of dances, but experiences. We focuses on mental well being, building community, knowledge and fun. We want every dancer to feel freedom through movement. Our regular dance classes in traditional West African dance classes and Soca while also offering Afrobeat, Afro Cuban, and Dancehall workshops.
About the Visionary
Chantelle Selkridge is a dancer, mother and cultural arts programmer. She has always been a lover of dance however started to take it more seriously in her mid 20s. Chantelle started Akoma Afro dance out of the need for African, Caribbean and Afro Latin cultural arts in Brampton and Peel Region. Chantelle has had formal training in Guinea West Africa under Master Djembefola and Dancer Fara Tolno as well as Masqquerade dance training in St. Kitts & Nevis. Her vision is to creat a cultural arts community hub of knowledge and mental & physical well being.
